1917 is an American-British 2019 epic war movie directed and produced by Sam Mendes, who wrote the screenplay with Krysty Wilson-Cairns. The movie stars George MacKay, Dean-Charles Chapman, Mark Strong, Andrew Scott, Richard Madden, Claire Duburcq, with Colin Firth, and Benedict Cumberbatch.

The movie is based by a story told to Mendes by his grandfather, Alfred Mendes.[1] It is about two young British soldiers during World War I in the spring of 1917 who were given a mission to deliver a message. It warns of an ambush after the German retreat to the Hindenburg Line during Operation Alberich.

It was released on 25 December 2019 by Universal Pictures, to strong positive reviews.
