On Sunday 19 October 2025, thieves who dressed up as workers stole nine pieces of the French Crown Jewels from the Galerie d'Apollon of the Louvre in Paris, France. The robbery took four to seven minutes and happened during regular opening hours.[1] It was the first art theft to happen at the Louvre since the 1998 robbery of the painting Le chemin de Sèvres.[2]
The thieves stole eight jewels, but one dropped as they were escaping.[3] A (disc cutter or) diamond disc cutter was used during the robbery.[source?]
Arrest
[change | change source]Police arrested, what they believed was a third person involved in the robbery, according to media (October 30).[4] Earlier that month, investigators arrested two men. The first was arrest on 25 October, when he tried to escape from France to Algeria. He was in arrest at Paris' Roissy Airport.[5]
