General elections were held in Costa Rica on 1 February 2026. Voters went to elect a new president for a four-year term and all 57 members of the Legislative Assembly.[1]
Laura Fernández Delgado, the candidate of the ruling Sovereign People's Party (PPSO), won the presidential election with 48.30% of the votes, beating Álvaro Ramos Chaves of the National Liberation Party (PLN) and 18 other candidates in the first round.[2]
No runoff needed since Fernández won more than 40% of the vote. She is the second woman to be elected president of Costa Rica.[3]
