Acyclic compound

An acyclic compound or open-chain compound is any chemical compound which is not cyclic: the shape of the molecule has no loops or circles.

Formally, this means that breaking all chemical bonds between any pair of atoms in the molecule will always split the whole molecule into two pieces.
