Akershus Fortress (Norwegian: Akershus Festning, no)[1] or Akershus Castle (Norwegian: Akershus slott no)[2] is a medieval castle in the Norwegian capital Oslo that was built to protect and give a royal residence for the city. It is on the banks of the Oslofjord.
The castle has also been used as a military base, a prison and is currently the temporary office of the prime minister of Norway.[3]
The Royal Mausoleum is located within the castle and was created in 1948.[4][5]
