Alice in Borderland (Japanese: 今際の国のアリス, Hepburn: Imawa no Kuni no Arisu) is a Japanese manga series written and drawn by Haro Aso. The manga was first published in a Shōnen manga magazine called Shōnen Sunday S from November 2010 to March 2015. After that, it was moved to another magazine called Weekly Shōnen Sunday, where it was published until March 2016. All the chapters were later put together into 18 comic books.
The manga also has a spin-off series called Alice in Borderland: Retry and another spin-off called Alice on Border Road which is about new characters in a different city.
Plot
[change | change source]The story is about a young man named Ryohei Arisu who doesn't have a job and is not happy with his life. He spends most of his time with his friends, Daikichi Karube and Chōta Segawa. One day, a mysterious light appears, and they find themselves in an empty Tokyo. They are forced to play dangerous games to survive.
The main characters look for a place called "the Beach," which is a safe place for players led by a person called the "Mad Hatter." They believe that if they collect all the playing cards from the games, they will be able to leave. After a big game at "the Beach," the game masters tell the survivors that this was just the first part of the games. Now they must face even harder challenges against strong enemies called "face cards" to escape Borderland.
