Americus is a city in Lyon County, Kansas, United States. In 2010, 896 people lived there.[7]

Americus was planned out in Fall 1857.[8] It was named after Amerigo Vespucci.[9]

Americus was a station and shipping point on the Missouri–Kansas–Texas Railroad.[10]

Americus is at 38°30′23″N 96°15′35″W / 38.50639°N 96.25972°W / 38.50639; -96.25972 (38.506448, -96.259598).[11] The United States Census Bureau says that the city has a total area of 1.13 square miles (2.93 km2). Of that, 1.12 square miles (2.90 km2) is land and 0.01 square miles (0.03 km2) is water.[12]

The 2010 census says that there were 894 people, 354 households, and 251 families living in Americus.[3]

Americus is served by USD 251 North Lyon County. The Northern Heights High School mascot is Wildcats.[13]
