Amistad (movie)
Amistad is a 1997 American historical drama movie directed by Steven Spielberg. It is based on the true story of the events in 1839 aboard the slave ship La Amistad. It stars Morgan Freeman, Anthony Hopkins, Djimon Hounsou, and Matthew McConaughey. David Franzoni's screenplay was based on the book Mutiny on the Amistad: The Saga of a Slave Revolt and Its Impact on American Abolition, Law, and Diplomacy (1987).
Amistad received mainly positive reviews. On Rotten Tomatoes, the movie receives an approval rating of 77% based on reviews from 64 critics.[1]
Amistad was nominated for Academy Awards in four categories: Best Supporting Actor (Anthony Hopkins), Best Original Dramatic Score (John Williams), Best Cinematography (Janusz Kamiński), and Best Costume Design (Ruth E. Carter).[2]
