Anthony Greco (born September 30, 1993) is an American professional ice hockey right winger. He currently plays for EHC Biel of the National League (NL). He has played for the Florida Panthers and New York Rangers in the National Hockey League (NHL). He has also played for Frölunda HC and Linköping HC of the Swedish Hockey League (SHL).
Career
[change | change source]Before playing in the NHL, Greco played three seasons in the United States Hockey League (USHL) with the Waterloo Black Hawks and Des Moines Buccaneers and four years with the Ohio State Buckeyes of the Big Ten Conference (B1G). During his time with the Buckeyes, Greco served as their captain.[1]
He was not drafted an NHL team. On November 22, 2017, Greco signed to a two-year, two-way contract with the Florida Panthers.[2] He was sent down to play for their AHL-affiliate Springfield Thunderbirds and spent the first three seasons playing for them.
After being called up by the Panthers on December 11, 2018, he made his NHL debut in a 5–1 loss against the Minnesota Wild three days later.[3][4] He was sent back down to the Thunderbirds after the game. On July 15, 2019, Greco signed a one-year, two-way contract extension the remain with the Panthers.[5]
On February 20, 2020, the Panthers traded Greco to the Tampa Bay Lightning in exchange for Danick Martel.[6] He was immediatly sent down to their AHL-affiliate Syracuse Crunch. He only played 3 games but recorded 1 assist.
On February 24, 2020, the Lightning traded Greco along with a 2020 first-round pick to the San Jose Sharks in exchange for Barclay Goodrow and a third-round pick.[7] He was then sent down to their AHL-affiliate San Jose Barracuda. He only played 7 games with them before the season ended due to COVID-19.
On October 9, 2020, Greco signed a two-year, two-way contract to join the New York Rangers.[8] On January 13, 2022, his Rangers debut came against his his former team, in a 3-0 win against the San Jose Sharks.[9] It was his only game for the team.
On June 27, 2022, Greco decided to leave North America and sign a one-year contract to join Frölunda HC of the Swedish Hockey League (SHL).[10]
He played two seasons with Frölunda before signing a one-year contract with HC Lada Togliatti of the Kontinental Hockey League (KHL), on July 1, 2024.[11]
On November 28, 2024, Greco signed a contract to join EHC Biel of the National League (NL).[12]
Personal life
[change | change source]His father was a member of the New York City Fire Department and served during the September 11 attacks, suffereing illnesses from the event.[13]
