Appomattox Court House

Appomattox Court House is a place in Virginia that is now called Appomattox. The American Civil War ended here on April 9, 1865, when General Robert E. Lee of the Confederate Army surrendered to Ulysses S. Grant and the United States' Union Army.
Though the place is called Appomattox Court House, the surrender took place at the McLean House, a private home.
