The Archdiocese of Łódź (Latin: Archidioecesis Lodziensis) is a Roman Catholic archdiocese in Poland. It was established in 1920 and became an archdiocese in 1992. The archdiocese is located in the city of Łódź.
History
[change | change source]The diocese was created on December 10, 1920, by Pope Benedict XV. In 1992, Pope John Paul II elevated it to the status of an archdiocese.[1] The archdiocese covers an area of 5,200 square kilometers.[2]
Leadership
[change | change source]The current archbishop is Grzegorz Ryś, who has served since 2017.[3]
Statistics
[change | change source]As of 2017, the archdiocese has about 1,330,000 Catholics, 219 parishes, and covers a population of 1,410,000 people.[4]
Cathedral
[change | change source]The main church of the archdiocese is the Cathedral Basilica of St. Stanislaus Kostka in Łódź.[5]
