The arrondissement of Auch is an arrondissement of France. It is part of the Gers département in the Occitanie region. Its capital is the city of Auch.

When the arrondissements were created on 17 February 1800, Auch was one of them in the Gers department.[1]

Geography[change | change source]

It is the easternmost of the arrondissements of the department, with an area of 2,133.9 km2 (824 sq mi).[2] It is the most populated arrondissement with 87,118 inhabitants and a population density of 40.8 inhabitants/km².[3]

The arrondissement is bordered to the north and northwest by the arrondissement of Condom, to the east by the Haute-Garonne department, and to the south and southwest by the arrondissement of Mirande.

After the reorganisation of the cantons in France,[4] cantons are not subdivisions of the arrondissements so they could have communes that belong to different arrondissements.

In the arrondissement of Auch, there are four cantons where not all their "communes" are in the arrondissement: Astarac-Gimone, Fezensac, Gascogne-Auscitaine and Gimone-Arrats. The following table shows the distribution of the "communes" in the cantons and arrondissements:
