Assistant superintendent

The lowest rank for a directly recruited Indian Police Service (IPS) officer is the Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP), which is held during the two years training and probation period. This rank is equivalent to the state police rank of Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP). After probation, officers are promoted to higher positions. [1]
