Azuchi (安土町, Azuchi-chō) is a Japanese town in Shiga Prefecture near Lake Biwa.[1]

History[change | change source]

The town is known for the ruins of Azuchi Castle. The castle was built by Oda Nobunaga in the 16th century. The castle was destroyed after Nobunaga's death by Akechi Mitsuhide in 1582; and only ruins remain.[1]

On March 21, 2010, Azuchi merged with the city of Ōmihachiman.
