The Battle of al-Hasakah, also known as the Al-Hasakah riot[7][8][9][10][11] was an attack by forces of the Islamic State and prison riot. The Islamic State launched an armed assault on the prison in an attempt to free their group's imprisoned fighters from al-Sina'a prison in the Ghuwayran area of al-Hasakah city. This city is under the control of the Kurdish Administration of northeastern Syria.[12][13][14]
Battles previously occurred in al-Hasakah in 2015 and 2016 between Kurdish forces and Islamic State forces.
