Bend It Like Beckham is a British sports comedy-drama movie. It was released on 12 April 2002 in the United Kingdom, 3 October 2002 in Germany, and 12 March 2003 in the United States.[1][2] It was directed and partially written by Gurinder Chadha.[3]
In the movie, Jesminder "Jess" Bhamra and Jules Paxton try to become professional football players. Bharma grows up in a strict Indian household and her parents want her to focus more on her education.[4]
On 24 June 2015, a musical based on the movie was shown at the Phoenix Theatre in London.[5]
Reception
[change | change source]The movie recieved positive reviews from critics. It holds a 85% fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes.[6]
The movie was very successful at the box office. Worldwide it made $76.6 million. When it was released, it became the highest-earning association football sports movie of all time and also the highest-earning Indian movie in the United States.[7]
Bend It Like Beckham won Best Sports Movie at the 2003 ESPY Awards.[8]
