Branchiostoma is one of the 3 extant genera of lancelets. It is the type genus in the lancelet family Branchiostomatidae, which is the only living family of lancelet. The members of this genus are the most well known lancelets.
Just like other lancelets, the member of this genus do not have a true head and are filter feeders.
The members of this genuse are normally 60 - 50 millimetres long which is around 6 - 5 cenimetres long. There is around 24 species of lancelets in this genus.
