Chiung Yao

Chiung Yao or Qiong Yao (Chinese: 瓊瑤; 20 April 1938 – 4 December 2024), pen name of Chen Che (陳喆), was a Taiwanese novelist and producer. She was seen as the most popular romance novelist in the Chinese-speaking world.^[1] Her novels have been made into more than 100 movies and TV dramas.^[2] Her best known works were Outside the Window, Fire and Rain and My Fair Princess. She was born in Chengdu, Republic of China. Her career began in 1962.

Chiung committed suicide on 4 December 2024 at her home in Tamsui District, New Taipei City at the age of 86.^[3]^[4]
