Coat of arms

[change | change source]

The coat of arms shows the Pope’s love for Jesus, Mary, and the Church. It also shows that he is from the Order of Saint Augustine.

The shield has two parts:[1][2]

  • The top part is blue. It has a white lily. The lily means the Virgin Mary.
  • The bottom part has a light color. It shows a red heart on a closed book. An arrow goes through the heart. This is from Saint Augustine. He said God’s word touched his heart.

The Latin motto is In Illo Uno Unum. It means: "In the One, we are one." It comes from Saint Augustine. It means Christians are one in Jesus Christ.[2][3][4]

Papal symbols

The coat of arms also has papal signs:[1]

  • A mitre (hat),
  • Two crossed keys behind the shield.

The coat of arms shows that Pope Leo XIV wants people to love Jesus, honor Mary, and be one Church. It shows his faith and his Augustinian way of life.[1][2][3]
