Colette Flesch (16 April 1937 – 21 January 2026) was a Luxembourgish politician and Olympic fencer. She was the Mayor of Luxembourg City from 1969 to 1980. She also was the Deputy Prime Minister of Luxembourg from 1980 to 1984. She was the first woman to hold either role.[1]
Flesch was born in Dudelange, Luxembourg. She earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in political science from Wellesley College in 1960. She later studied at Tufts University, before studying at The Hague Academy of International Law.[2]
As a fencer, she took part in the Individual foil events at the 1960, 1964 and 1968 Summer Olympics.[3]
After her Olympic career, Flesch worked for the Democratic Party and the European Liberal Democrat and Reform Party. In December 1968 she was elected to the Chamber of Deputies in an early election. She would be in the chamber from 1969 to 1980, 1989 to 1990 and from 2004 to 2009.[1]
Flesch also represented Luxembourg in the European Parliament from 1984 to 1985, 1989 to 1990 and from 1999 to 2004.[1]
Flesch died on 21 January 2026 in Luxembourg City at the age of 88.[1]
