Colin Rand Kaepernick (born November 3, 1987) is an American football player. He plays the position quarterback. Kaepernick plays for the San Francisco 49ers. He played college football for the University of Nevada Wolf Pack. In the 2011 NFL Draft the 49ers selected Kaepernick in the second round with the 36th overall pick.

In 2016, Kaepernick became a national figure and a controversial one when he knelt on one knee rather than stand while the United States national anthem was being played before the start of NFL games.[1] He did this to protest the racial injustice in the United States.[2]
