Coordination number

From Simple English Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The coordination number of an atom is the number of other atoms that are "next to" it in a chemical compound. In the simplest cases, this counts the chemical bonds of an atom in a molecule.[1] The definition gets more complicated with coordination complexes and crystalline ionic compounds.
