Cosne-Cours-sur-Loire is a commune in the Nièvre department in the Bourgogne-Franche-Comté region in central France. It is a subprefecture of the department.

Cosne-Cours-sur-Loire is in the northwest of the department, on the border with the Cher department; it is on the confluence of the Loire and the Nohain rivers at 55 km (34 mi) of Nevers, the subprefecture of the Nièvre department.

The commune of Cosne-Cours-sur-Loire has an area of 53.3 km2 (20.6 sq mi),[2] and its average altitude is 195 m (640 ft); at the city hall, the altitude is 150 m (490 ft).[3]

Cosne-Cours-sur-Loire is a subprefecture of the Nièvre department since 1800. It is also the capital of the arrondissement of Cosne-Cours-sur-Loire and the administrative centre (French: chef-lieu) of the canton of Cosne-Cours-sur-Loire formed by 7 communes, with 14,926 inhabitants (2014).[6]
