Dakota City is a city in Dakota County, Nebraska, United States. As of the 2010 census, 1,919 people lived there.[2] It is the county seat of Dakota County.[5]

Dakota City was platted in 1856.[6] It was named for the Dakota people.[7] Dakota City was incorporated as a city in 1858.[8]

Dakota City is at 42°24′55″N 96°25′4″W / 42.41528°N 96.41778°W / 42.41528; -96.41778 (42.415294, -96.417808).[9]

According to the United States Census Bureau says that the city has a total area of 1.20 square miles (3.11 km2). Of that, 1.08 square miles (2.80 km2) is land and 0.12 square miles (0.31 km2) is water.[10]

As of the 2010 census says that there were 1,919 people, 637 households, and 464 families living in Dakota City.[2]
