History and Industry
[change | change source]The first Granny Smith apple tree was planted in 1900, starting the large local apple industry. Apples are harvested between March and May. A small gold rush happened near the town in 1897, but it only lasted for a few years. Besides apples, the area is also important for:
- Timber
- Beef and Dairy farming
- Wine and Cider making (part of the Geographe Wine Region)
