Echternach (Luxembourgish: Iechternach) is a canton in the east of Luxembourg. Its capital is Echternach.

Geography[change | change source]

With an area of 185.5 km2 (71.6 sq mi),[1] and a population (2017) of 18,702, the Echternach canton has a population density of 100.8 inhabitants/km².[2]

It is bordered on the north by the German district of Eifelkreis Bitburg-Prüm (part of the Land of Rhineland-Palatinate), to the east by the district of Trier-Saarburg (also part of Rhineland-Palatinate), to the south by the Grevenmacher canton and to the west by the Diekirch and the Mersch cantons

Part of this canton is a natural region called the Little Switzerland.
