Mair Eluned Morgan, Baroness Morgan of Ely (born 16 February 1967) is a Welsh Labour politician who was the First Minister of Wales and the Leader of Welsh Labour from 2024 until 2026.[1] She previously served as Cabinet Secretary for Health and Social Care in the Welsh Government from 2021 to 2024.[a][2][3]
As leader of Welsh Labour and First Minister, she moved the Welsh Labour back to the political left and distancing it from the centrist UK Labour leadership of Keir Starmer.[4][5][6][7]
Having led the party into the 2026 Senedd elections, Morgan lost her seat in the Ceredigion Penfro constituency, becoming the first leader of a government in the UK to be unseated while still in office.[8] She later announced that she would resign as leader of Welsh Labour.[9]
