Ermanno Olmi

Ermanno Olmi (24 July 1931 – 5 May 2018) was an Italian movie director and screenwriter. He was born in Bergamo, Italy. He was best known for his movie The Tree of Wooden Clogs (L'Albero degli zoccoli), which was awarded the Palme d'Or at the 1978 Cannes Film Festival. In 1983 his movie Walking, Walking was screened out of competition at Cannes.

Olmi died of complications from Guillain–Barré syndrome in Asiago, Italy on 5 May 2018 at the age of 86.[1][2][3]
