Ernst Ludwig Kirchner

Ernst Ludwig Kirchner (6 May 1880 – 15 June 1938) was a German expressionist painter.

He was one of the founders of the first expressionist group Die Brücke ("The Bridge"), in 1905. Kirchner served in the army at the First World War, but was dismissed after a breakdown. The time spent at war left a mark on him and his work. He was considered as a degenerate artist by the Nazi regimen in 1933 and his work taken from the museums. He lived in Davos, in Switzerland, on his final years, committing suicide in 1938.[1]
