Deutsch: Die beiden Schlüssel versinnbildlichen die Himmelsschlüssel des Petrus, dem das Trierer Bistum geweiht ist. Der Bär symbolisiert das Wappentier der Stadt Bernkastel und der Krebs steht für den Kardinal Nikolaus von Kues, eigentlicher Name Cryfftz (=Krebs).
