Deutsch: Emmendingen ging 1415 durch Kauf von den Markgrafen von Hachberg an die Markgrafen von Baden über. Die ab 1466 überlieferten Gerichtssiegel enthalten einen gespaltenen Wappenschild, der vorn den Schrägbalken der Ortsherren, hinten ein Pflugeisen, das Fleckenzeichen Emmendingens, zeigt. 1590, im Jahr der Stadterhebung, beschaffte sich die Stadt ein neues Siegel. Heraldisch links (hinten) zeigt es einen Mann in Rüstung. Seine linke Hand umfasst den Griff eines Langschwertes. In der Rechten hält er ein Zepter. Die dargestellte Person ist Markgraf Jacob III. von Baden-Hachberg in Prunkrüstung, der am 1. Januar 1590 Emmendingen die Stadtrechte verlieh. Das Zepter ist der Hinweis darauf, dass der Abgebildete zum Hochadel gehörte. Das heutige Wappen wurde – wie frühere Ausführungen, künstlerisch frei – nach dem im Original erhaltenen Stadtsiegel von 1590 gestaltet. Das Stadtwappen wurde 1969 offiziell festgelegt, seine Beschreibung 2019 aktualisiert (s. Wikipedia: Emmendingen).
