Object history
Deutsch: Im Jahr 1476 verlieh der Bamberger Bischof Philipp Graf von Henneberg (1475 bis 1487) als Landesherr dem Markt Siegel und Wappen. Auf einem Siegel mit der Jahreszahl 1581 und in einer farbigen Abbildung auf der Bamberger Vasallentafel von 1603 ist das Wappen überliefert. Der Turm und die Ringmauer stellen die Marktbefestigung dar, der silberne Wellenbalken den Fluss Schorgast. Im Schrifttum des 19. Jahrhunderts und in den Dienstsiegeln fehlt das Wappen bis 1953.
