Object history
Deutsch: Die Birke (Maie) auf dem Dreiberg ist redendes Bild für den ursprünglichen Namen Mainberg. Schon das älteste Siegel, das in Abdrucken seit 1374 überliefert ist, zeigt in einem gotischen Dreiecksschild die Maie, eine Hängebirke, auf dem Dreiberg und mit der Umschrift CIVIVM DE MAENBERCH. Noch bei Apian (um 1562) ist der Baum deutlich als Hängebirke erkennbar. Im 19. Jahrhundert wurde die Birke auch als Apfelbaum mit Früchten oder als Linde gedeutet. Die heutige Darstellung der Baums mit dem Zaun ist erstmals seit dem kleinen Marktsiegel aus dem 18. Jahrhundert überliefert. Hupp (1912) ließ trotz der älteren Nachweise den Zaun weg. Mainburg wurde 1954 zur Stadt erhoben.
