Object history
Deutsch: Auf Bitten der Heimbürgen und des Gerichts des damaligen Marktfleckens Metzingen, der schon zuvor ein Signet mit der Abbildung eines Kohlkopfs verwendet hatte, erlaubte Herzog Johann Friedrich von Württemberg am 16. November 1616 die Führung der württembergischen Hirschstange über diesem Fleckenzeichen. Das Wappen blieb unverändert auch als Metzingen 1831 das Prädikat „Stadtgemeinde" erlangte. Nach Mitteilung der Stadt ist die blau-weiße Flagge schon gegen Ende des 19. Jahrhunderts belegt.
