Object history
Deutsch: Im ersten bekannten Siegel des Marktes aus dem späten 16. Jahrhundert erscheint ein gevierter Schild, unter dem das Feld von durchgehenden Wellen ausgefüllt ist, die den Main versinnbildlichen. Wenn auch die zugehörige Legende nur den Ortsnamen enthält, so dürfte doch das Siegel insbesondere von dem ”Magelrath” genannten Ortsgericht geführt worden sein. Da Obernbreit schon 1258 den Grafen von Castell gehörte, bezog Otto Hupp den gevierten Schild auf diese Familie und tingierte ihn silbern-rot. 1448 verkaufte indes die Herrschaft Hohenlohe-Brauneck einen Teil ihrer Besitzungen – u.a. Obernbreit als eines der sog. sechs Maindörfer – an den Markgrafen von Brandenburg-Ansbach. Bis 1791 blieb Obernbreit markgräflich und wurde dann für kurze Zeit preußisch. Die Gemeinde leitet ihr Wappen daher vom Zollernschild ab und führt es in Silber und Schwarz.
