Object history
Deutsch: Pfaffenhofen erhielt 1474 von Kaiser Friedrich III. Marktrechte, führt aber erst seit 1838 ein Wappen. Bis dahin benutzte die Gemeinde ein kleines Siegel, das ein bekröntes Schildchen mit der Wappenlilie der Fugger zeigt als Zeichen ihrer Gutsherrschaft. Die Gemeinde wünschte sich ein Wappen mit dieser Lilie, einem Römerturm und dem österreichischen Bindenschild. Der Turm sollte den Römerturm in Pfaffenhofen darstellen. Der österreichische Bindenschild sollte an die ehemalige Zugehörigkeit zur Markgrafschaft Burgau erinnern. Das Reichsheroldenamt stimmte dem nicht zu und beschränkte das Wappenbild auf den Turm. Das Wappen wurde im 19. und frühen 20. Jahrhundert mehrfach geändert: belegt mit einem silbernen Pfahl als Hinweis auf die Markgrafschaft Burgau, ein Dreiberg anstelle des Hügels oder der Turm mit offenem Tor.
