Object history
Deutsch: Die Silberdistel fand als eine für die Flora des Altmühljuras typische Pflanze und als Hinweis auf die Lage der Gemeinde auf der Jurahochfläche Eingang in das Wappen. Die sechs Grundblätter weisen auf die Zusammensetzung der Gemeinde aus sechs Gemeindeteilen hin, die sich nach der Eingemeindung der Gemeinden Seuversholz, Sornhüll, Wachenzell, Weigersdorf (alle 1972) und Preith (1978, zum Teil) ergab. Der goldene Löwe stammt aus der Heraldik des Hochstifts Eichstätt, mit dem das heutige Gemeindegebiet seit den Anfängen eng verbunden war. Im 12. Jahrhundert ist bischöflicher Besitz in Wachenzell (1179), Sornhüll und Weigersdorf (1186) belegt. Preith kam 1302 an das Domkapitel. In Seuversholz war Eichstätt bis 1484 begütert.
