Object history
Deutsch: Im Jahr 1323 wurde Wonsees zum Markt erhoben. Abdrucke eines Wappensiegels sind aber erst seit dem 16. Jahrhundert bekannt. Das Wappen hat sich seitdem nicht mehr geändert. Eine farbige Abbildung von 1581 überliefert sowie im Wappenkalender von 1767 zeigt das gleiche Bild. Die Vierung von Silber und Schwarz weist auf die Burggrafen von Nürnberg, den einstigen Landesherrn, hin. Die Buchstaben W sind die Anfangsbuchstaben des Ortsnamens. Im Fürstentum Ansbach und Bayreuth waren Buchstaben in Ortszeichen übliche Unterscheidungsmerkmale. Im 19. Jahrhundert verwendete der Markt ein bildloses Siegel. Das Wappen wurde 1962 bestätigt.
