Chauchilla cemetery is located about 30 km from the city of Nazca in the Peruvian department of Ica.

It is a necropolis of the ancient Nazca culture flourished in the area between the second century C. the ninth century AD. In the cemetery you can see remains of ancient civilization as well as (fragments of pottery. Textile) mummies cemetery.nazca description tours

The mummies are in a good condition despite its age and many of them can still see remnants of hair and even some skin. Conservation has been made possible in part thanks to the arid climate of the Nazca desert in which the cemetery is located. It is the only archaeological site in Peru that mummies can be seen in their original graves.

As an open-air site, the area has suffered from continuous attacks by looters, which has eliminated most of its archaeological treasures. However, since 1997, the area is protected and has become an official archaeological site.nazca description tours
