In 1829 Julia Hankey (d. 1877) married Lt. Colonel the Hon. Thomas Seymour Bathurst, a younger son of the 3rd Earl Bathurst. They were the parents of the 6th Earl Bathurst.

Object history The portrait was engraved by R. J. Lane in 1832 and reproduced in the Catalogue of the Bathurst Collection in 1908. It remained in the Bathurst family from the time it was delivered until 1986, when the Dallas Museum of Art acquired it.
