Francisco Capel (24 December 1933 – 19 October 2022) was a Spanish basketball player. He played with Real Madrid Baloncesto and the Spain men's national basketball team.

Biography[change | change source]

He played 26 times for the Spain men's national basketball team. He won with the national team the gold medal at the 1955 Mediterranean Games, the silver medal at the 1959 Mediterranean Games and competed at the EuroBasket 1959.[1]

In 1960 he became with Real Madrid Baloncesto Liga Española de Baloncesto (1957–1983) champion and Copa del Rey de Baloncesto champion.[2]

Capel died on 19 October 2022.[2][3] After his death, Real Madrid held a minute of silence before the start of the match against Olympiacos in tribute to Capel.[4]
