Frankenstein is a 2025 American gothic science fiction horror movie.[4] It was directed by Guillermo del Toro. He also wrote and co-produced the movie with Gary Ungar, Scott Stuber, and J. Miles Dale.[5]
The movie is based on the 1818 novel Frankenstein; or, The Modern Prometheus by English writer Mary Shelley. The movie is about a scientist, Victor Frankenstein, played by Oscar Isaac. He creates a monster from parts of dead people.[6] The movie also stars Jacob Elordi, Mia Goth, and Christoph Waltz.
Principal photography began on February 12, 2024, in Toronto and finished on September 30.[7][8] The movie had its world premiere at the 82nd Venice International Film Festival on August 30, 2025.[9] It was released in some theaters on October 17, 2025, and worldwide on Netflix on November 7, 2025.[10] It got good reviews from critics, and many praised Elordi’s performance.
It received nine nominations at the 98th Academy Awards, including Best Picture, Best Adapted Screenplay and Best Supporting Actor (Elordi).
