Gérard Chaliand (15 February 1934 – 20 August 2025) was a Belgian-born French poet, academic and historian. He was known for his works about warfare and military strategy in Asia, Africa, Latin America and the Middle East.[1] He was also a professor at Harvard University, University of California, Los Angeles and at the University of California, Berkeley.

Chaliand died at a hospital in Paris, France on 20 August 2025 from kidney failure at the age of 91.[2]
