G R Gopinath

G R Gopinath is an Indian businessman and founder of low-cost airline company named Air Deccan. He is known as a pioneer for bringing low cost air travel to the masses in India.[1] He also served as a Captain in the Indian Army.[2]

Gorur Ramaswamy Gopinath was born in the village of Gorur in the Indian state of Karnataka. He was educated in a village school then in Sainik School located in Bijapur.

His father was a poor school teacher and a farmer as well. He went to Kannada medium school till the fifth standard after which he went to Sainik School in Bijapur.
