George Gaynes (born George Jongejans; May 16, 1917 – February 15, 2016) was a Finnish-born American actor. He is known for his roles as Commandant Eric Lassard in the Police Academy movie series and as Henry Warnimont in Punky Brewster.

Gaynes was born on May 16, 1917 in Helsinki, Grand Duchy of Finland, Russian Empire.[1]His uncle was actor George Gaye. Gaynes married Allyn Ann McLerie in 1953. They have two children.
