Gewürztraminer
Appearance

Gewürztraminer is a kind of white wine, which is mostly grown in the northeast of France and the southwest of Germany. The wine has a white or yellow color. Depending on the kind of grapes used, it may also be called Roter Traminer (Red Traminer) or Gelber Traminer (yellow Traminer). In Alsace, the variety is simply called Gewurztraminer or simply Gewur(t)z. The name comes from Tramin, which is a commune in South Tyrol. There, this name has been used since the 11th century. In Germany, this kind of grape was in use since about the 15th century. Very often, it was mixed with Riesling.
