The studio was founded in July 1997 as Sony Computer Entertainment's main European divison. In 2003, they rebranded to SCEE Cambridge Studio, later shortened to Cambridge Studio in 2010.

Later in 2013, SCE rearranged the company as a sister studio to Guerrilla Games.
