Almeida exhibited for the first time in 1967.[2] Almeida used shutters or blinds which transformed into paintings. Her goal is to break down the ideas of a painting. Almeida's work was shown in the Tate Modern in London, the Museum of Art in New York City, the Museu d'art Contemporary de Barcelona, and also in her home town in Lisbon.[3]

Almeida died in Lisbon from a heart attack on 25 September 2018 at the age of 84.[4]
