Henk Scholte (26 July 1959 – 21 February 2025) was a Dutch singer.
Biography
[change | change source]Born in Emmen, Scholte grew up in Musselkanaal and Stadskanaal and moved to Groningen in the late 1970s. There he became known over the years as a singer, but also because of his network and knowledge of local folk music, culture and the Gronings dialect. His nickname was Henkie Törf, referring to the band Törf in which he was the singer. He was also active in the acoustic Duo BH, together with fellow Törf member Bert Ridderbos.
From 2000 until his retirement in 2023, he presented the daily program Twij deuntjes veur ain cent for Radio Noord, dedicated to regional music. The program was threatened with disappearance in 2016 due to budget cuts, but was temporarily retained after protests.[1] Scholte stopped in 2023 and was replacd by René Walhout.[2]
In April 2009 he became Knight in the Order of Orange-Nassau. Scholte died after a long illness at the age of 65 on 21 February 2025.[3][4]
