The iPhone (also called the first-generation iPhone, iPhone (original), iPhone 2G, and iPhone 1) was the first smartphone made by Apple, Inc. It was announced on January 9, 2007, and released on June 29, 2007. It changed the mobile phone industry, being the first phone to have a multi-touch screen. It succeeded the Newton line of touchscreen phones by Apple.
